C.D. Luis Ángel Firpo

Club Deportivo Luis Angel Firpo or simply Firpo, is a football club from Usulután, El Salvador and plays in the Primera División de Fútbol Profesional, the highest football league in the country.

History

C.D. LA Firpo is the oldest football club in El Salvador. The club was founded on 17 September 1923 by a group of citizens of the city. Originally called the club Tecún Umán, but was soon renamed in honor of Luis Angel Firpo, a famous Argentine boxer, who was the first heavyweight champion of Latin America.

The team won the league title eight times so far.

The team took part in the 2008 edition of the CONCACAF Champions League, but resigned in the main round as the third-placed Group B.
