Cab signalling

The cab signaling system (FSS ) is a form of signaling of the railway. A major reason for the introduction of cab - signaling, is that drivers can no longer safely assume the standing on the tracks signals at high speeds.

It is used in the form of automatic train, since the 1960s for quick trips ( over 160 km / h) in Germany and later in Austria. Since the late 1990s, the cab signaling is also on conventional lines each application ( project CIR - ELKE ).

In the UK, cab signaling is required (201 km / h) since the 1980s at speeds of over 125 miles per hour. On the basis of ETCS Level 2, the cab signaling is used for some years in Switzerland.
