Cabinet of the Faroe Islands

The Government of the Faroe Islands ( Faroese: Føroya Landsstýrið ) is the autonomous government of the Faroe Islands as part of the kingdom community of the Kingdom of Denmark.

The Faroese state government consists of

  • The Løgmaður (Danish Lagmand, German counterpart Prime Minister ), an office which had existed from 1274 to 1816, and
  • The Landsstýrismenn, the ministers.

The Løgmaður is usually chosen every four years by the Løgting. He then appoints the ministers, the number of the Constitution stipulates at least two. Have Løgmaður and the Minister shall appoint one seat in Løgting without voting rights. Regular deputies mandates rest, they will be occupied by a substitutes from the party list. Step back a minister, he can take his seat in parliament again.

Since 26 September 2008, the Sambands Kaj Leo Johannesen Løgmaður politician, he leads since November 14, 2011, a liberal-conservative coalition of Sambandsflokkurin, Fólkaflokkurin, Miðflokkurin and Sjálvstýrisflokkurin.

After Løgtingswahl of 19 January 2008, there were for the first time in the history of the Faroe Islands a red- red government of Social Democrats ( J ) and left Republicans (TJ). It was Kyndilsmessulandsstýrið ( Candlemas - government ) because they came on February 2. As a junior partner introduced the Christian Democrats ( MF) another Minister. Another novelty was the own post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Republican boss Høgni Hoydal took over. By 2008, the Løgmaður took over the foreign affairs. After it was evidently led to a personal rift between Eidesgaard and Hoydal, the four ministers of Tjóðveldi were released on 15 September 2008. Eidesgaard led their businesses to the commencement of the successor government.

Johannesen I (2008-2011)

The government was formed on 26 September 2008.

Ministries and agencies

On 3 March 2004, the oil ministry was dissolved and incorporated as authority in the Ministry of Trade and Industry and partially into the newly created Department of the Interior. 2004-2008 were social and health ministry a common ministry.

In addition, the autonomous government operates a number authorities. Known as stamp collectors is the postal authorities of the Faroe Islands, Postverk Føroya.
