Caenagnathasia

  • Uzbekistan ( Bissekty Formation)
  • Caenagnathasia martin soni

Caenagnathasia was a theropod dinosaur from the group of Oviraptorosauria, who lived in the Upper Cretaceous of Uzbekistan. Within the Oviraptorosauria this little-known species will be provided to Caenagnathiden.

Caenagnathasia is only known from two incomplete mandibles ( holotype; catalog number N 401/12457 and paratype; catalog number N 402/12457 ), which originate from the rock strata of the Bissekty lineup and approximately 91-86 million years old are (late Turonian to Coniacian ). This is the earliest known Caenagnathiden. The only way Caenagnathasia martin soni was first described by Currie, Godfrey and Nessov 1993. Caenagnathasia was the smallest known Caenagnathidae. The mandible showed a nearly straight upper edge, teeth or tooth-like projections were missing. It was presumably as with other Oviraptorosauriern a plant or omnivores. From the North American Chirostenotes Caenagnathasia be distinguished by various features of the pines, such as the less pronounced ribbing on the lingual side of the occlusal edge.

The name Caenagnathasia means " New jaw from Asia " and is composed of Caenagnathus ( Gr. kaine "new" and gnathos " pine " ) and the ancient Greek Asia ( " Asia " ) together.
