Caetés, Pernambuco

Caetes is a district ( município ) in the state of Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil with 25.337 inhabitants (as of July 2005). The agriculture of Caetes produced, inter alia, corn, beans, cotton and cassava.

In Caetes, the then called Vargem Grande, the current Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was born in 1945.

By 1963 Caetes belonged under the name " Vargem Grande " to Garanhuns.
