Café 0 ~ The Drowned Mermaid ~ (Japaneseカフェ·ゼロ~溺れ た 人魚~ Kafe zero oboreta ~ ~ ningyo ), is a mystery adventure Japanese style ( visual novel ) for a female target group ( Otome Game), which concerned the last seven days of life of Marin Umino goes.
The game was released on October 4, 2011 for Linux, Mac OS and Windows in English. The game was later officially translated into Japanese and German. The game is the first commercial release of roseVeRte. On 22 April 2012, the game was released on Desura. The Japanese and English versions of the game were published on 27 September 2012 for iOS. On March 8, 2013 version for Android followed.
Game mechanics
As a visual novel, the player reads through the story and makes choices at key points in the game to change history. This leads to a potential of six ends. The game is divided into three main paths; the protagonist changes its appearance depending on the player decisions.
Action
The protagonist Marin Umino (海 野 真珠, Marin Umino ), who has lost all her memories, suddenly wakes up in a strange place called Café 0, where a blue -haired waiter named Sui (スイ) served her a glass of water. Now experience the last seven days of her life again and has the chance to uncover the truth and find the reason for her premature death. She soon finds out that three persons could be connected with her death: Ami Kawase (川 瀬 爱 海, Kawase Ami ), which claims to be her best friend, Shō Takizawa (滝 沢 祥, Takizawa Shō ), the school doctor and Tōru Mizutani ( 水 谷 透 流, Mizutani Tōru ), who seems to be her ex-boyfriend. The plot is now changing, based on the decisions of the player.
Characters
- Marin Umino is a Higschoolschülerin and former star of the swimming club. She is an itinerant wandering spirit and now a guest at the Café 0
- Sui is a waiter at the cafe 0 and the companion of Marin. He is always polite and is in Marin, but he teases her often.
- Shō Takizawa is the school doctor and childhood friend of Marin.
- Tōru Mizutani is the ex-boyfriend of Marin. He goes out only with the most popular girl in school and it is his reputation is very important.
- Ami Kawase is the supposedly best friend of Marin.
Development
The game was developed with Ren'Py. The story and the graphics have been developed by Chu3 while Mirage of Zeiva Inc has helped with the writing. As proofreaders Mink and Roxie were listed. The German translation was taken over by Marcel Weyers, which also duplicity ~ Beyond the Lies ~ has translated. The Japanese version was released on December 24, 2011, while the German version was published on March 9, 2012.

Reception
Café 0 ~ The Drowned Mermaid ~ received positive reception on Gamertell with 93 out of 100 possible points. It was touted " unique gaming experience " especially.
On Gamezebo the game received three out of five stars. Nadia Oxford wrote about the game ( loosely translated ): "It is certainly not the most dynamic literary work ever written [ ... ] but if you stand on interactive Novels and curious, like a mermaid can drown, you will certainly play to the true end. "
Marcel Weyers chose the game at the Visual Novel of the Month October 2011 and wrote: " Although the game compared to other VNs is a bit short, it offers new ideas and multiple endings. "
