The municipality Cajeme is an administrative district in the southern part of the Mexican state of Sonora. The district was named after José María Leyva Cajeme, a former leader of the Yaqui. Capital is Ciudad Obregón. Cajeme borders the Municipalities Suaqui Grande, Quiriego, Rosario de Tesopaco, Guaymas, Bácum, Benito Juárez and Navojoa and in the south by the Gulf of California.
History
In the region lived from about 1100 to 1533 Yaqui. Diego de Guzmán came in 1533 with the Spanish army in the region in order to conquer it, but the Yaqui won. The first European inhabitants came to Plano Oriente, to work in the irrigation system for the company Richardson. The train Sudpacífico tangierte the city of Ciudad Obregón. On July 28, 1928, Ciudad Obregón, which was then called Cajeme explains the main town.
