Calaby's pademelon

Thylogale calabyi is a Känguruart from the kind of Filander ( Thylogale ). Until recently it was considered a subspecies of the New Guinea Filanders.

These kangaroos are from 3 to 6 kg to smaller kangaroo species. Their fur is gray brown on the top, the underside is lighter, at the hip, there is a striking bright stripes. As with most kangaroos, the hind legs are much larger and stronger than the front legs.

Previously the species was common in the mountainous regions of eastern New Guinea, today she comes only before a few places, such as the Mount Albert Edward. At Mount William and Mount Giluwe the stocks have gone out.

Their habitat are tropical forests and grass -lined regions around 2,800 meters above sea level. Otherwise, little is known about their way of life: like all Filander they are likely to be nocturnal solitary and feed on grasses, herbs and leaves.

Due to the small distribution area and the continued hunting of the species by the IUCN as " critically endangered " ( endangered ) listed.
