Calamia

Grüneule ( ' Calamia tridens )

Calamia is a genus of the tribe Apameini from the moth family of cutworms ( Noctuidae ).

Features

The genus includes medium to large butterfly with a long body. The forewings are relatively long and slender. The head is relatively large, the forehead smooth, wide and round. The antennae of the males are finely serrated on both sides with long cilia. Other features are derived features in the male and female genitalia.

Of life, occurrence and geographical distribution

The genus is heat- loving and prefers open landscapes. The caterpillars live mostly on grasses. The genus is widespread Palaearctic.

System

The genus is with the genera Sidemia and Hampsonicola (formerly Hedina ) very closely related, as with Crypsedra and Staurophora. The position in the tribe Apameini is relatively safe. The genus includes five species:

  • Grüneule ( Calamia tridens ( Hübner, 1766 ) )
  • Calamia modesta Staudinger, 1900
  • Calamia staudingeri Warnecke, 1941
  • Calamia Metamorpha Boursin, 1960
  • Calamia deliciosa Boursin, 1957

The position of the tribe Apameini is not yet fully understood. Previously it was attributed mostly to the subfamily Hadeninae. In more recent classifications to belong to the subfamily Xyleninae is proposed ( Fibiger and Hacker, 2007).
