Calatagan, Batangas

Calatagan is a Philippine municipality in the province of Batangas.

Geography

The municipality comprises the Calatagan Peninsula between the South China Sea and Balayan Bay. The white beaches of the peninsula are popular recreational areas of the rich and famous of Manila. Calatagan is located at the western exit of the Isla Verde Road. This is considered a biodiversity hotspot of the underwater world in the Philippines and worldwide.

Archeology

One of the extremely rare finds of characters from pre-Hispanic times to the Philippines was made in Calatagan. The characters, called in Tagalog Baybayin, were found on a funerary urn from the 13th or 14th century.
