The Light Blue Mormon tulip ( Calochortus coeruleus ) is a species of the genus Mormons Tulips ( Calochortus ) in the lily family ( Liliaceae ).

Features

The Light Blue Mormon tulip is a autumn to spring green, perennial herbaceous plant that reaches stature heights of 3 to 20 centimeters. This Geophyt forms onions as outlasting. The basal leaves are preserved in the heyday.

One to ten flowers are in a racemose inflorescence. The hermaphrodite, radiärsymmetrische, threefold flower is open and bell-shaped. The bloom is not flashy striped or spotted. The inner are 8 to 12 millimeters long, strongly ciliated on the entire edge, hairy on the upper side only of the gland, verkehrteiförmig, pointed, and light blue. The capsule fruit is nodding.

The flowering time is in June, partly it starts in May.

Occurrence

The Light Blue Mormon tulip comes in Northern California before on forest clearings on gravel in altitude 600-2500 meters.
