Calycobathra calligoni

Calycobathra calligoni is a butterfly of the family of Chrysopeleiidae.

Features

The moths have a wingspan of 10-12 millimeters. The head is ocher. Thorax and tegulae are pale mottled ocher and ocher. The forewings are pale ocher and ocher mottled gray, especially in the basal region and along the Costa loader. For casement drawing include two narrow dark gray strokes. The first is located at 1 /3 of the forewing length in the anal fold, the second at 3/ 5 of the forewing length in the wing center. The fringe scales are pale ocher- gray. The hind wings shine light gray and pale ocher- gray Frans have dandruff. The abdomen shining dorsally brownish- gray, the segments are rear banded whitish. The last two segments are white, its after clump is yellowish white.

In the male the uncus is short and powerful, and sickle-shaped. The Valven are slender and distal bent inward. There is a notch at the base. The inner protrusion writhes in the slit-shaped bulge, the outer is nearly straight, widens apically and is hook-shaped bent inward. The ductus bursae extends in many turns and is provided with a stiffening sclerotized band. The antrum is broadly cup-shaped, the rear half is densely covered with hairs inside. The corpus bursae is oval. There are two small horn-shaped Signa formed with a circular base.

Similar Species

Calycobathra calligoni differs from Calycobathra acarpa and Calycobathra variapenella by the lighter and usually monochrome, pale ocher-colored forewings and the two distinct dark gray strokes.

Dissemination

Calycobathra calligoni comes in the extreme southeast of the European part of Russia before (eastern Caucasus, Southern Urals ). Further distribution areas are the eastern part of the Transcaucasus and Central Asia. The species is common in desert and semi- desert habitats and occurs together with Ascalenia viviparella.

Biology

The caterpillars develop in the stems and fruits of Calligonum Junceum, Calligonum eriopodum, Calligonum microcarpum and Calligonum leucoladum. They live from late spring until the first half of the summer. It makes two generations per year. The moths can be found throughout the year. They overwinter in the construction of various rodents.
