Camel racing

Camel racing is a sport in the Arab countries and Australia, comparable to the equestrian sport.

In Saudi Arabia, camel racing is a national sport, they accompany the celebrations of many Bedouin tribes.

The camels can reach a speed of up to 64 km / h. Young animals, usually three or four years old, lay sections of ten kilometers back. For the fastest racing camels sums of up to one million dollars will be paid. The sheikhs it is not about money but about honor and pleasure.

Also in Germany occasional camel races take place, such as on the racecourse in Dortmund on 26 February 2006.

In professional races replace the Children tab. Often this children from countries such as Pakistan and Bangladesh are used, which were sold by their poor families virtually as slaves to camel race organizers. Given the criticism of these practices, the use of children was banned in camel racing in Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, in the future, robots will replace the Children tab. In Qatar, a Swiss robot rode successfully on a test track 2.5 km on a racing camel.
