Cameroon National Union

The National Cameroonian Union (French National Union Camerounaise or UNC, English Cameroon National Union or CNU ) was Cameroon's only legal political party until 1990.

The UNC supported labor, youth and women's organizations and introduced the single list of candidates for the parliamentary elections of 1973, 1978 and 1983.

History

It was founded in 1966 by the Association of Cameroonian Union ( Cameroon Union, Union Camerounaise ) National Democratic Party with the Cameroon, the two main political organizations, respectively, the eastern and western regions, and four other small parties.

Ahmadou Ahidjo was the first leader of the National Cameroonian Union in 1966 and led his office even after his resignation as president of the nation in 1982 continued. After President Paul Biya had come into force emergency law in August 1983, Ahidjo joined, now in the former colonial power France, as party leader back. Biya was elected subsequent offer to the party chief at a special party congress in September. In 1985, the Cameroonian National Union was renamed the Democratic collection of the Cameroonian people ( Cameroon People's Democratic Movement ).
