Camp Nichols

Camp Nichols (also Fort Nichols ) is a former fortress in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. It is located about five kilometers northwest of Wheeless in Cimarron County.

Was built the camp in 1865 by volunteers from New Mexico and California under the command of Kit Carson to protect travelers on the Cimarron Route of the Santa Fe Trail from attack of people living in this area Comanches and Kiowa Indians. Already in the following year it was again abandoned. Today only ruins of the bearing are obtained.

Camp Nichols was recorded in 1966 in the National Register of Historic Places (# 66,000,628 ).
