History

In the twenties, a landing site was set up by the French airmail company Societe Latécoère, which was used for refueling of aircraft on the route between Paris and Buenos Aires. This was the first international airport in southern Brazil. The commander of the track was the French writer and aviator Antoine de Saint- mail Exupéry, the Campeche used to rest and made friends with some inhabitants of the village during his stays.

In his honor, was the town's main street named after his most famous work and is named Avenida Pequeno Príncipe ( in German: "Little Prince Avenue ").

Name

For the beach, the name is used only since about 1860. It is derived from the offshore island of Ilha do Campeche, whose name is probably due to the plant pau de campeche ( " Hematoxylon campechianum ") refers. Before this beach was called, together with the north and south in the beaches ( Joaquina and Morro das Pedras ) as Praia do Mandu.

Only a legend is that the name of Campeche ( was nicknamed the Saint- Exupéry given by the inhabitants) on Zé Perri back and a corruption of the French term " Champ de Pêche " ( in German: "Fishing Field" ) is.
