Campo Marzio

Campo Marzio ( German Field of Mars ) is the IV rione (district ) of Rome. It comprises the northern part of the Champ de Mars from the Spanish Steps to the Piazza del Popolo.

History

The area was in antiquity outside the city limits and was built with numerous public institutions. From the Middle Ages it became one of the most densely populated parts of the city.
