Camus (Cognac)

Camus is the fifth largest and one of the world's leading cognac distilleries with headquarters in Cognac, France. The company is the only one of the major cognac producers still family-owned.

History

The company's founder, Jean- Baptiste Camus (1835-1901), who - decided in 1863, the fired him brandy no longer sell to the existing Cognac houses, but to market themselves in the future - as an independent winegrower. To this end, he founded his company, which should also address the quality assurance and improvement, under the name of La Grande Marque. Main export country was England, where the brand quickly earned a good reputation.

The sons of Edmond (1859-1933) and Gaston (1865-1945) occurred in 1894 or 1896 in the father's company. During this time, the sale of cognacs from a converted barrel to a bottle product. In Russia, the cognac brand Camus became the purveyor to the court of the last Tsar's family.

The third generation is represented by Michel Camus ( 1911-1985 ). He renewed - in another political context - the relationships with Russia and recognized in the 1960s as one of the first, the business potential of the resulting duty-free markets.

The current company owners are the fourth generation of Jean -Paul Camus (* 1945) and a fifth-generation Cyril Camus (born 1971 ), who recognized early on the potential of the Asian business words and extended. Cyril Camus Cognac developed also a series of wines from the Ile de Ré and expanded the product range with a series of coffee.

Château du Plessis

The Château du Plessis is the ancestral home of the Camus family. It is located in the north of the town of Cognac in the so-called borde factories and now serves in part as a restaurant. In the vaulted cellars, supporting a small part of the house of Cognac Camus.
