Cancale
Cancale ( Kankaven Breton ) is a commune in northern Brittany in the department of Ille -et -Vilaine. It is located in the northwest of the Bay of Mont -Saint -Michel, about ten kilometers east of Saint- Malo, on the Emerald Coast. The town has 5277 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011). The town is divided into two neighborhoods: the Upper City (La Ville Haute ) is located at 45 meters above sea level overlooking the bay and is the center with church, market and shops. The romantic harbor (La Houle ) is on the seafront and offers good hotels and restaurants.

Oyster farming can be demonstrated in Cancale from the 13th century. Today it covers an area of 400 hectares, 50 businesses employ depending on the season 150 to 300 employees and a turnover of 3.8 million Euros (2000 ).
