Cancho Roano

Cancho Roano is an archaeological excavation at Zalamea de la Serena in the Spanish province of Badajoz. It is located three kilometers north of Zalamea de la Serena in the direction of Quintana de la Serena. The system is protected as Bien of Interest Cultural since 1986.

Description

The nearly square arrangement consisted of a building over a heaped terrace and a ditch. The house of a flight of small rooms had granted a fortified gate in the east, the access to the courtyard. The building, which was destroyed in 400 BC by a fire, had two previous buildings, which originated at the beginning of the 6th century BC. The building probably served as a palace with sanctuary and depot.
