Candice Breitz

The artist Candice Breitz ( b. 1972 in Johannesburg) is originally from South Africa. She lives in Berlin and teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts in Braunschweig. In their photo and video work explores the role of media in the development of individuals or groups.

Life

Candice Breitz spent her childhood in Johannesburg. She studied in South Africa and the USA, art history, she worked for several years in New York. Since 2003 she lives and works in Berlin. In 2007 she won the international prize for contemporary art at the Fondation Prince Pierre de Monaco.

Exhibitions (selection)

2005 Candice Breitz 's breakthrough at the Venice Biennale with her ​​video installation Mother Father. At twelve screens are six male and female Hollywood actors from the film context dissolved and to be seen against a black background. The result is a conversation between mothers and fathers on parenting.

On 28 November 2008, the Temporary Kunsthalle Berlin opened with a two-part exhibition by Candice Breitz. Inner Outer Space is the title of the exhibition. In the first part she showed Working Class Hero (A Portrait of John Lennon ), 2006, King ( A Portrait of Michael Jackson ), 2005 and Queen ( A Portrait of Madonna ), 2005. For all three works, the artist was looking for the most authentic fans, were ready to show off a full album of the artist in front of the camera on their own special way. How big is the influence of pop music on the lives of the recipients? The fans as the most intense recipients are a part of the study to address this question.
