Cândido Godói is a Brazilian town in the district of Rio Grande do Sul, near the border with Argentina.

Through the city, founded in 1963, the road RS -165 in the north-south direction, which turns west to meet the RS- 307 road, which passes in an east-west direction. The population is 6,762 (as of 2008 ) on an area of ​​246,275 km ². The city Presidency Valdi Luis Goldschmidt.

History

The municipality is located in the area where earlier, indigenous Indians were located from the master tapes. The first European colonizers were Spaniards. The area later went through a negotiated between the colonial powers Portugal and Spain Treaty (Treaty of Tordesillas ) to Portugal. Although originally inhabited by Spaniards, today represent German and Polish -born population in the majority. Its name commemorates the gewesenen in founding the Official Brazilian Minister of Public Works, José Cândido Godói.
