Cañete, Chile

Cañete, is a city in Chile in the Región del Bío -Bío. It is located about 154 km away from Arauco. Cañete has about 16,000 inhabitants and is located 71 meters above sea level. The main tourist attractions are the Archeological Museum and sites to visit the Mapuche culture.

History

In the fall of 1553, the Mapuche in the Arauco War defeated the Spanish troops at Fort Tucapel and killed Pedro de Valdivia. Tucapel located a few kilometers away from Cañete.
