Species and their distribution

  • The eyes Rail ( Canirallus oculeus ) was described in 1855 by Carl Johann Gustav Hartlaub as Gallinula oculea. It is monotypic, at times, however, the population of Cameroon was considered a subspecies Canirallus oculeus batesi. The distribution area is disjoint and extends from Sierra Leone Equatorial Guinea, Guinea, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo to Uganda.
  • The Grey -throated Rail ( Canirallus kioloides ) was described in 1845 by Jacques Pucheran as Gallinula kioloides. At times, she stood in the monotypic genus Mentocrex. There are subspecies Canirallus kioloides kioloides from eastern Madagascar and Canirallus kioloides berliozi from the region of Sambirano in northwestern Madagascar distinguished.
  • The Tsingyralle ( Canirallus beankaensis ) is closely related to the Grey -throated Rail. It was only in 2011 described by Steven M. Goodman scientifically. Its distribution area is the lowland in the central northwestern Madagascar, particularly the regions in Bemaraha and Beanka

At times, the Cuvier's Rail ( Dryolimnas cuvieri ) was placed in this genus.
