Çankaya is a district of the Turkish province of Ankara and at the same time a municipality of Büyükşehir Belediyesi ( city municipality ) Ankara. The district is surrounded by the districts of Mamak, Yenimahalle, Gölbaşı and Altındağ. There are 813 339 inhabitants living in 96 Mahalle. Çankaya was declared in 1936 to a municipality ( Belediye ).

Çankaya is the government district, the most important district of Ankara and hosts many important institutions:

  • In addition to four state universities (University of Ankara, Gazi University, Hacettepe University and the Technical University of the Middle East ) there are six private universities (including the known devices Bilkent University and Çankaya University) and a military school ( Kara Harp Okulu ). Linked to this there are about 100,000 students.
  • 96 foreign representations.
  • The Presidential Palace ( Çankaya Köşkü ).
  • The Atatürkmausoleum ( Anitkabir ).
  • The Turkish Parliament (Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi ).

In addition to these sites there are plenty of museums, monuments and public places. About the train station and bus terminal Ankara Çankaya is connected to the nationwide public transport system.
