Canoe sailing

Canoe Sailing is a variant of sailing, which emerged from the Canoeing. Canoe sailing boats are among the fastest single-handed sailing boats in the world.

Type

Sailing canoes have a pointed tail unlike dinghies instead of a transom stern. There is the national class " Typhoon" and the international class "IC" ( International Canoe ). "IC 10 " refers to a sail area of ​​10 square meters. History

Instrumental in the development of the sailing canoes of the British Attorney-General and founder of the Sea Scouts, Warington Baden -Powell (1847-1921) was involved. In 1871 he sailed and paddled, at the age of 24 years, in a canoe on the Baltic Sea with stops in Germany, Denmark and Sweden. The experience gained, he wrote in his book Canoe Travelling, published in 1871, down.

In England in 1882 the first races were held. German Championships there since 1931, European Championships are held since 1936 and world championships since 1961. These take place every three years.

Organization

The canoe is sailing together internationally in the International Canoe Federation (ICF).

In Germany the canoe sailing both in the German Canoe Association ( DKV ) and in the German Sailing Association is organized ( DSV). The department canoe sailing in DKV was constituted on 17 November 1973 and on 17 December 1974, the class associations of boat classes "IC " was created by DSV (code 510) and " typhoon " (Code 511) recognized.
