Cantabri

The Cantabrians (Latin Cantabri ) were an ancient, living in the northern Iberian Peninsula tribe in the mountainous area of Cantabria between Asturias and the Basque country on the Atlantic coast.

During the reign of Augustus the area by the Romans after lengthy campaigns was ( Cantabrian War, 29-19 BC) finally subjected. Roman sources mention to expand on their neighbors and try their sphere of this as an occasion for the campaigns raids of the Cantabrians. However, the field of Cantabrians was for the Romans also due to its Erzreichtums of economic interest, so they started shortly after the conquest of the exploitation of gold mines.
