The eye spot, pointed nose puffer ( Canthigaster solandri ) lives in the tropical Indo-Pacific from East Africa to the Line Islands and Tuamotus, north to the Ryukyu Islands, south to New Caledonia and Tonga, to Hawaii. The population of the coasts of the Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea, Queensland and Belaus differs in color and was formerly considered a separate species ( Canthigaster papua ). In the Red Sea, he is replaced by Canthigaster margaritata.

Features

The eye spot, pointed nose puffer fish is 11.5 inches long. The basic color is brown. Numerous small blue, white on the belly points cover his body. From the eyes go radiating from some short blue lines. There is an eyespot at the base of the dorsal fin.

Way of life

Inhabits rocky reefs protected, lagoons and outer reefs and adheres to mainly over boulders floors, between corals and under overhangs at depths of one to 36 meters. The fish live mainly in pairs but also in small groups. Eyespot, pointed nose puffer fish feed mainly filamentous green, filamentous red algae growing and crusty, corals, echinoderms, polychaetes, crustaceans, molluscs and bryozoans. The eye spot, pointed nose puffer is arqat by the filefish Paraluteres imitated ( mimicry ).
