Canton of Neuf-Brisach

The Canton of Neuf- Brisach is a further breakdown of the arrondissement of Colmar in the Haut -Rhin in Alsace region of France.

History

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 with the establishment of the departments as part of the then " district Colmar ".

With the establishment of the arrondissements on 17 February 1800 the canton was again cut as part of the then arrondissement of Colmar.

From 1871 to 1919 there was no further breakdown of the former district of Colmar.

Since June 28, 1919, the canton is first part of the former arrondissements Colmar- Campagne, which is again united to the arrondissement of Colmar since 1934.

Geography

The canton is bordered to the north by the Canton Andolsheim, Germany to the east with the district Breisgau- Black Forest in the administrative district of Freiburg (Baden- Württemberg), to the south by the Canton Ensisheim in the Arrondissement Guebwiller and to the west by the Canton of Colmar- Sud.
