Canton of Waldstätten

The Canton Waldstätte was a canton of the Helvetic Republic, which consisted 1798-1802 / 03.

In the reorganization of boundaries in Canton of the Helvetic Republic, the cantons and republics of Central Switzerland in 1798 were given their negative attitude towards the unitary state the French style fused to Canton Waldstätte. This also the political influence of central Switzerland has been significantly reduced, which would have been significantly above average after the first draft of the Canton of classification in relation to population, as in the Helvetic Senate each canton was allowed to make four deputies. Instead of the 16 original seats provided for the cantons train ( with free office and Baden), Schwyz (excluding March, with Gersau ), Unterwalden ( Obwalden and Nidwalden, Engelberg ) and Uri (without Leventina, with Urseren ) therefore came only four senators for the Canton Waldstätte together.

The term " forest establishment" attacks the common since the Middle Ages the common name of the original cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden again.

The Canton Waldstätte was divided again already in the later draft constitutions of Malmaison and by the Second Helvetic Constitution of 1802. However, the canton was canceled definitively only by the Mediation Act of 1803.

The Canton Waldstätte consisted of the following territories, republics and the cantons of the Old Confederation:

  • Canton train
  • Canton of Schwyz ( without accrued and farms )
  • Canton of Uri ( without Leventina, with Urseren )
  • Canton of Nidwalden
  • Canton of Obwalden
  • Abbey of Engelberg (formerly facing of the Confederation )
  • Republic Gersau (formerly facing of the Confederation )

Capital of the canton forest site was the location of Schwyz.
