Cañuelas is the capital of the Partido Cañuelas in Buenos Aires. It has about 31,000 inhabitants and is located about 60 km south of Buenos Aires.

The city and its surrounding area will benefit from the proximity to the capital. So have many porteños there estancias or weekend houses. For the same reason and because of the proximity to the airport but also companies settle there. Between 1991 and 2001 the city's population has increased by 28.2%.

History

1821, the Capilla (chapel ) del Carmen de las Cañuelas was built on the present territory of Cañuelas, after which the place got its name. On January 22, 1822, the town was officially founded. 1825 designed the surveyor Felipe Senillosa a development plan for a village around the chapel. In the following years various estancias ( farms) were established. 1864, the first city council was established by law. The population grew steadily and in 1868 already amounted to almost 5,000 inhabitants. 1885, the railway line was Barracas - Cañuelas inaugurated. With the increasing population and the infrastructure of the town grew, a hospital, a library and other facilities, there were schools built. In 2007 the population of the Partidos almost 48,000 of which live about two-thirds in Cañuelas city.

The town also includes the dairy La Martona, the first in Argentina. It is said that here the Argentine dulce de leche specialty was invented.

Sports

Cañuelas is the home of the football club FC Cañuelas, which plays in the fourth Argentine league. They are also fitted several polo clubs, including the Club La Dolfina, in which each year is played in November the Copa Diamante.

Traffic

Cañuelas is connected to Buenos Aires via the Autopista (motorway) Ezeiza - Cañuelas. A railway line also via Ezeiza to the capital.
