CAP-1 Planalto
The CAP-1 Planalto was a military trainer aircraft from the Brazilian manufacturer Companhia Aeronáutica Paulista.
History and construction
The CAP- 1 was developed in Brazil during the Second World War. She was a low-wing monoplane with fixed spur wheel chassis. Teachers and students were sitting one behind the other in open cockpits. The aircraft project was initiated by the Instituto de Pesquisas Tecnológicas ( IPT) under the name IPT -4. With the development and production of CAP was tasked IPT nevertheless insisted on there designed wing profile, which led to serious stability problems in the finished aircraft.
As CAP 3 CAP-1 were described, which were equipped instead with the Franklin 4AC engine with a de Havilland Gipsy with 130 hp. The stability problems remained untouched until CAP engineer Oswaldo Fadigas the wings in CAP -6 revised. The company tried to offer this last type of the Air Ministry, succeeded only selling conversion kits for existing CAP-1 and CAP- third
