Cap Skirring

Cap Skirring is located in the southwestern end of the Senegal in the Casamance region.

It is now an internationally renowned tourist center and is visited mainly by French-speaking people.

History

Actually, a traditional fishing village, was discovered Cap Skirring of coming from Ziguinchor French in the early 1960s as a tourist destination. At that time, Cap Skirring was still surrounded by dense forests and had almost no regional significance.

The late 1960s, was created by members of the Aéroclub de Ziguinchor a dirt airstrip for a small airport. The directed the attention of the Club Méditérranée to the place from which the company began with the consent of the then government under Leopold Sedar Senghor of Senegal in 1973 to relocate the people living there in order to build a resort on the spot.

The runway was extended and attached to larger jets, for example, from Dakar or directly from Europe, as to be able to handle from Paris, Marseille etc.. The success of this holiday region and the presence of an international airport attracted more large hotels. The club Méditérranée never made it despite his own enormous profits with the hotel to let the Cap Skirring region and its people benefit from it.

The political unrest due to the conflict between the Mouvement de la Casamance Democratic Forces of ( MFDC ) and the Senegalese government in the Casamance region, particularly between 1980 and 1990 have the growth and success Cap Skirrings done as a tourist destination not diminish.

Geography

Cap Skirring is located about 70 km west-south -west of Ziguinchor on the border with Guinea- Bissau and about 85 km south-west of Bignona.
