Capçanes

Capçanes is a Catalan municipality in the province of Tarragona, in northeastern Spain. It is located in the comarca of Priorat. Capçanes is located in a side valley of the mountains of Tarragona and has 415 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

Geographical Location

Capçanes lies about 7 km south of Falset, 40 km west of Tarragona and about 160 km south-west of Barcelona.

The main industry is the wine.

Monument to the Carrasclet, who was born in the village, by Francesc Carulla i Serra.

Sons and daughters of the town

Pere Joan Barceló i Anguera (1687-1741), called Carrasclet ( "cabbage seller, " in allusion to his profession ), guerrilla, on the side of the Habsburg Archduke Charles fought in the War of Spanish Succession against the Bourbons and died in exile.
