Cape Apostolos Andreas

Cape Apostolos Andreas, and Cape St. Andrew, Greek Ακρωτήριο Αποστόλου Ανδρέα, Turkish Zafer Burnu ( "Cape of Victory" ), forms the north-eastern tip of the Mediterranean island of Cyprus.

The cape is located at the end of the elongated peninsula Karpas. Not far from the Cape Apostolos Andreas Monastery is the, once considered Cypriot Lourdes. The Greek name refers to the Apostle Andrew, on the journey from Asia Minor to Caesarea in this chapter was shipwrecked according to legend. This event led later to the establishment of the St. Andrew's monastery. The Turkish name was created in 1571 after the successful Ottoman invasion of Cyprus under Sultan Selim II.
