Capoeira Angola

Capoeira Angola is one of the two main forms of Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art.

It applies in contrast to regional than the original version of Capoeira and is now practiced mainly in the region around Bahia. Increasingly, they are also found in Europe spread. The most obvious distinction to de Capoeira Regional is the fact that players make in the Roda often seemingly uncoordinated and very slow movements that convey the impression of inertia. That this is just for show, the players notice but usually only when attacked quickly by such a movement sequence out, like with a curving of a rotation about the axis of the body out of the way. Attacks will not run into the void beyond the reach of the opponent.

Important in Capoeira Angola is the perception of the opponent. A nice game finds expression in the flowing exchange of punches and evasive movements. It is often a slow, focused game ( it is not called the fight ) more difficult because a lot of emphasis is placed on the harmonious interaction. But also a very fast and playful, acrobatic play is possible. Every game is different: As any capoeirista has his own style and character, as a new encounter and another game takes place in each new constellation of players. Wit and humor lighten up the whole event.

" Malandragem " which can be translated in terms of Gaunertum is a certain fundamental attitude of " Angoleiros ". It shall be interpreted as a certain slyness and serenity to be understood in an amiable way.

" Violence " are short in Capoeira Angola. Most of the attacks are only carried out so that no serious injuries can occur - kicks are eg like directed against the upper arms.

A difference from the Capoeira Regional is often much more colorful appearance, wearing flat shoes and not to play with your shirt off - to be Angoleiro also means to put emphasis on style. Not infrequently Rodas played in Bahia in the suit.

In general: Angoleiros increasingly use Fintas ( delusions ), Malicia (actually wickedness, in the sense of Capoeira rather canny ) than their counterparts of Capoeira Contemporânea and Capoeira Regional.
