Caprese Michelangelo

Caprese Michelangelo is a municipality with 1498 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Arezzo, in Tuscany, Italy.

Geography

The place is located in the Casentino valley on the eastern edge of the central Italian region of Tuscany, east of Florence at the crest of the Apennines.

The districts include Casalino di Caprese, Dicciano, Fragaiolo, Greg Nano, Lama, Monna, Papiano, Ponte Singerna, San Casciano, San Cristoforo, Selva Perugina, Sovaggio, Trecciano and Valboncione.

The neighboring municipalities are Anghiari, Chitignano, Chiusi della Verna, Pieve Santo Stefano and Subbiano.

History

The area was already inhabited in the Etruscan period. In the Middle Ages the area was strongly influenced by settling here Lombards. 1226 came it was under the suzerainty of Arezzo. By Royal Decree of 9 February 1913, the name of its most famous citizen, Michelangelo, the place name Caprese has been added.
