Car or Pu is a nikobaresische language that is spoken by about 20,000 people on the northern island of Car Nicobar as their mother tongue. Car ( Pu) is by far the most important of the seven native nikobaresischen languages and is on the Nicobar Islands of another 17,000 people - used as a lingua franca - including immigrants.
For the language of the Latin alphabet is used Car. There is a translation of the Bible from the year 1969.
Linguistic characteristics
Although Car is one Austro Asiatic language, it has typological similarities with geographically nearby Austronesian languages Nias and Achinesisch, with which it forms a small linguistic area ( Braine 1970).
Car is a VOS language, the order of the parts of a sentence in the declarative sentence is therefore usually predicate - object - subject. (Worldwide, this type of very rare, there are only about 2 % of all languages to do so. ) Car is prepositional (ie prepositions it, no postpositions used ), the typical structure of the noun phrase is noun - genitive ( " the Father's house " ) adjective - noun ( " the big house " ), numerals - Noun and Demostrativum - noun. Number, case and Possessivbeziehungen are not marked on nouns, there are three grammatical genders. The morphology is suffigierend with agglutinative tendency.
