Carasobarbus

Carasobarbus luteus, the type species of the genus.

Carasobarbus (of Carassius and Barbus ) is a Middle Eastern species of carp fish that is found in Turkey, in the basins of the Jordan, Tigris and Euphrates, in Maharloosee and Cor in Iran and in some wadis of the Arabian Peninsula.

Features

Carasobarbus styles are the convey medium sized carp fish in shape between some high-backed Carassius and the elongated Barbus species. They are 17-45 cm long. Their dorsal fin is supported by three to four undivided and nine to ten branched fin rays, the anal fin has two to three undivided and six, rarely five or seven branched fin rays. The last undivided fin ray of the dorsal fin is yellow in color and smooth. The scales are large and patterned by numerous, arranged in parallel radii. On foot or two to find a Bartel pairs. The pharyngeal teeth have hooked tips.

As some African Barbus species have the Carasobarbus species a hexaploid chromosome complement.
