Carbon-Blanc

Carbon-Blanc is a commune in the Gironde department in the region of Aquitaine. The municipality is located in the catchment area of the city of Bordeaux. While Carbon-Blanc in 1962 still had 1628 inhabitants, one counts 6941 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).

The name of Carbon-Blanc is the medieval name Charbon Blanc ( literally white coal) for leprosy back. In fact, the community possessed at that time a leprosarium.

Carbon-Blanc is a wine community; the vineyards belong to the appellation Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux.

Management

The municipality is the capital ( chef-lieu ) of the Canton Carbon-Blanc in the arrondissement of Bordeaux.

The community belongs to the community association Communauté Urbaine de Bordeaux.

Traffic

Carbon-Blanc is located with its own junction on the A10 motorway.

The community is accessible by bus lines of the TBC. The tram Bordeaux TBC leads to here.
