Siskins (Carduelis spinus )

The siskins (Carduelis ) are a genus in the family of finches ( Fringillidae ) dar. The name comes from the West Slavic (Czech: " Čížek ", Polish: " Czyzyk ").

Internal system

Through DNA testing of the mitochondrial cytochrome b was found that the crossbill ( Loxia ) are included in the genus Carduelis. In addition, the Goldfinch ( Carduelis carduelis ) outside the genus closest to the Zitronengirlitz ( Serinus citrinella ) is used. To avoid paraphyly, as this Zitronenzeisig (Carduelis citrinella ) is classified in the same genus. Through several years of captivity observations of Asian and European Goldfinch subspecies and the three Chloris species Greenfinch (Carduelis chloris ), Himalayan Greenfinch (Carduelis spinoides ) and China Greenfinch (Carduelis sinica ) has shown that the various subspecies of Stieglitzes and the three investigated green body types, two self-contained without transitional forms form separate groups of Carduelis genus. Two extinct species are known from the Canary Islands, the Triassic Greenfinch ( Carduelis triasi ) and the Slender-billed greenfinch (Carduelis aurelioi ).
