The state election in Carinthia in 2013 took place as early election on March 3, 2013. On the same day the state election was held in Lower Austria in 2013. Due to the massive losses of the FPK whose managing party chairman Kurt tickler resigned on March 4, 2013. After the election, the SPÖ and the Greens put in the state parliament and the provincial government for the first time in the history of Carinthia, a majority agreed on a cooperation. This was followed by talks with the ÖVP over a three coalition that would have a two-thirds majority to change the state constitution can. The election results led to a power struggle in the FPÖ.
