Carl August Friedrich Mahn

Carl August Friedrich Mahn ( born September 9, 1802 in Zellerfeld, † January 27, 1887 in Steglitz ) was a German linguist, Provenzalist and Anglist.

Life and work

Mahn studied in Braunschweig, Göttingen and Berlin. From 1828, he was a private tutor and private tutor in Berlin. In 1857 he was co-founder of the Berlin Society for the study of modern languages ​​. His students included Paul Heyse, Karl Bartsch and Konrad Hofmann. He taught at the Academy from 1872 to 1880 for existing modern philology in Berlin, from 1873 with the title of professor.
