Carl Baudenbacher

Baudenbacher ( born September 1, 1947 in Basel, home justified in Murten ) is a Swiss lawyer. From 1987 to 2013 he was a full professor at the University of St. Gallen; He has been President of the EFTA Court in Luxembourg since 2003.

Life

Baudenbacher studied from 1967 to 1971 Law at the University of Bern, where he also received his doctorate in 1978. In 1983 he completed his habilitation at the University of Zurich. After professorships and visiting professorships in Germany, he became in 1987 Professor of Private Law at the University of Kaiserslautern. Since 1987 he holds the chair for residential, commercial and business law at the University of St. Gallen, since 1990 director of the Institute for European and International Business Law. In 1995 he founded a postgraduate course at the University of St. Gallen in European and International Business Law " Executive MBL- HSG", which is carried out in Europe, the USA, Japan and China. From 1993 to 2004 he was Visiting Professor of International and European Law at the School of Law at the University of Texas at Austin.

From 1990 to 1994 Baudenbacher was Advisor to the Government of the Principality of Liechtenstein in matters of European law. 1994/95 he was a member of the Princely Supreme Court. In 1995 he was elected on the proposal of the Principality of Liechtenstein to the judge at the Court of Justice of the European Free Trade Association ( EFTA), which he chaired in 2003. The EFTA Court has jurisdiction to decide cases that have their origin in the EFTA pillar of the European Economic Area ( EEA). The EFTA pillar belong to Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.

From 1999 to 2007 Baudenbacher initiated together with the former Austrian Vice Chancellor Erhard Busek, the Vienna Symposium globalization. He is Chairman of the St. Gallen International Competition Law Forum ICF, the St. Gallen International Energy Forum (IEF together with Dirk Buschle ) and the St. Gallen International Dispute Settlement Conference IDSC. Baudenbacher particularly in the areas of antitrust, EU occurs as a speaker at international conferences / EEA law, international courts and arbitration. He lectures in European, U.S. and Asian universities.

Baudenbacher has more than 40 books and over 150 articles written on European and international law, contract law, employment law, unfair competition law, antitrust law, corporate law, intellectual property law, comparative law, arbitration and international dishes.
