Carl Fredrik Fallén

Carl Fredrik Fallén ( born September 22, 1764 in Kristinehamn; † August 26, 1830 in Lund ) was a Swedish entomologist and professor of natural history.

Fallén enrolled as a student in Uppsala in 1783 and 1786 in Lund. He received his MA in 1790 exam and became a lecturer in 1792 in Lund, biology and economics. 1810 Fallén got the job of being a professor, and shortly thereafter his reward was adjusted accordingly. The official promotion to professor of natural history took place in 1812, which he succeeded his teacher Anders Jahan Retzius in office. Fallén was the first in a series of important entomologists of the University of Lund and by many of his colleagues, he is regarded as the founder of the local entomological collection. From 1818 to 1819 he was rector of the university. From 1810 Fallén was elected member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, which made in 1855 to honor him coin a commemorative medal. He has published 81 scientific works, mainly insects, and provided a variety of articles for the Journal of the Academy of Sciences.
