Carl Gunderson

Carl Gunderson (* June 20, 1864 in Vermillion, South Dakota, † February 16, 1933 in Mitchell, South Dakota ) was an American politician and from 1925 to 1927, the eleventh Governor of the State of South Dakota.

Career

Between 1886 and 1890 Carl Gunderson attended the University of South Dakota. Subsequently, he studied until 1892 at Cornell University, the engineering. After completing his studies he was a surveyor. Between 1904 and 1911 he worked in this capacity in three Indian reservations in the country. Gunderson was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1893 and 1919 he was several times with a few interruptions, a deputy in the House of Representatives from South Dakota. From 1921 to 1925 he served as Deputy Governor Deputy Governor William H. McMaster; in 1924 he was elected to succeed him.

Gunderson's two-year term began on January 6, 1925. Priorities of his government were agriculture and education policy. In 1926, Gunderson run for re- election, but was defeated by Democrat William J. Bulow. So that his governor ended at the end of its term on January 4, 1927. Upon his deselection he retired until his death in February 1933 on his farm near Mitchell back. Carl Gunderson was married to Gertrude Bert Read, with whom he had four children.
