Carl HÃ¥rleman

Carl Hårleman ( born August 27, 1700 in Stockholm, † February 9, 1753 ) was a Swedish architect and politician.

Life and work

Hårleman studied with Göran josuae Adelcrantz 1721 and got a scholarship which enabled him to study in Italy and France. In 1727 he was recalled to Sweden to participate in the construction work for the Stockholm Palace, of which he took over from the 1740s.

With the pleasure palace Svartsjö Hårleman created a rococo style Swedish coinage, which was to dominate in the construction of castles and manor houses in the coming decades. He also worked as a landscape architect.

Hårleman but was also politically active. As a member of the Reichstag, he was during the time freedom staunch supporter of the party hats. From 1743 to 1753 he was a member of the Secret Committee, the power center of Sweden at that time.
