Carl Reinhold August Wunderlich

Carl Reinhold August Wunderlich (* August 4, 1815 in Sulz am Neckar, † September 25, 1877 in Leipzig ) was a German internist. He was a professor in Tübingen and Leipzig and is considered a co-founder of physiological medicine and therapy constitution.

Life

The Gymnasium visited Wunderlich in Stuttgart; there began the friendship with Wilhelm Griesinger and Wilhelm Roser. In 1833 he took up his medical studies in Tübingen and became a member of the Corps Guestphalia Tübingen. In 1837 he graduated from the viva. From 1837 to 1838 he undertook a teaching trip to Paris and was then assistant at St. Catherine Hospital in Stuttgart.

In the same year, the promotion and 1840, the habilitation was as an internist in Tübingen. From 1842 to 1859 he edited the archive of the physiological healing together with Wilhelm Roser and Wilhelm Griesinger. In 1843 he was appointed associate professor and was promoted in 1846 to full professor and director of the medical clinic.

Wunderlich was one of the most important medical clinicians and teachers of the 19th century, introduced in Leipzig clinical teaching one, the physiologically oriented, diagnostic methodology and should be strictly checked at any time. He was responsible for the introduction of empirical medical observations such as the thermometer and the registration of the fever curve in medicine.

In his honor, is named after Wunderlich in the Medical Department of the University Hospital Heidelberg ( Ludolf - Krehl Clinic ) one of the stations of Cardiology. The most Ludolf von Krehl attributed principle of medical ethics, not diseases, but people treat it, according to Erwin Liek actually back at Wunderlich. Krehl have formulated the principle of special and only told the doctor had to treat sick individuals.
