Carl Sigman

Carl Sigman (* September 24, 1909 in Brooklyn, † 26 September 2000 in Manhasset ) was one of the most famous American songwriter.

Life and work

Sigman who grew up in New York, began after encouragement by his friend Johnny Mercer instead of a career as a lawyer to start writing songs. For Glenn Miller Pennsylvania 6-5000 and he wrote for Frank Sinatra / Tommy Dorsey Love Lies ( 1940). Crazy, He Calls Me ( 1949) was known by Billie Holiday.

Mainly he has worked as lyricist, partly in cooperation with Bob Hilliard. He has also worked with Duke Ellington ( All Too Soon) Tadd Dameron and with ( If You Could See Me Now ). Together with Percy Faith, he wrote My Heart Cries For You, which was recorded in 1951 by Dinah Shore, Guy Mitchell and Vic Damone. In 1953 he wrote Ebb Tide, which was known both by Frank Chacksfield and by the Righteous Brothers. He also wrote the lyrics for the title song of the film Love Story, Where Do I Begin, with the Andy Williams had a hit. He has also worked out the English version of songs that had been written in other languages, such as Answer Me, Till The Day the Rains Came and What Now My Love.

1972 Sigman was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
