Carles Benavent

Carles Benavent (* March 1, 1954 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish flamenco and jazz bassist.

Life and work

Benavent founded at the age of thirteen with Salvador Font and Emili Baleriola the jazz and rock band Crack from two years later the rock group Maquina! arose. In 1975, he was alongside Joan Albert Amargos, Salvador Font, Jaume Cortadellas, Jordi Bonell and Matthew Simon of the founders of the group Música Urbana.

After a short collaboration with the Max Sunyer Trio ( with Salvador Niebla ), he became in 1980 a member of the Paco de Lucía band ( with Jorge Pardo, Rubem Dantas, Ramon de Algeciras, etc.), which he served until 2001. In 1981, he played a variety of flamenco recordings, especially with Camaron de la Isla and Paco de Lucía. The following year he participated in two world tours by Chick Corea and recorded two albums with him.

In 1983 his first album as a leader entitled Carles Benavent. In the Grenoble Jazz Festival he performed with Jorge Pardo and won the Special Jury Prize. 1987 to 1988 he toured with Didier Lockwood and Bernard Lubat and their bands through France.

In the Swiss television Benavent gave a concert in 1990 with Jorge Pardo, Gil Goldstein, Don Alias ​​and Alex Acuña, from the New York Album Zebra Coast was born. The following year he played at the Montreux Jazz Festival with Miles Davis in an orchestra under the direction of Quincy Jones compositions by Gil Evans.

In 1996 he joined the Getxo Jazz Festival with his band on, Jorge Pardo, Joan Albert Amargós, Rubem Dantas, Tino di Geraldo, Gil Goldstein and as a guest Othello Molineaux belonged.
